Located in the former public schools on Plaza de San Juan, the House of Culture, or more commonly known as Kultur Etxea, is one of Balmaseda’s most important cultural centers.
Together with the Klaret-Antzokia theater across the street and the Town History Museum to one side, it forms a complex named after Pío Bermejillo, a wealthy emigrant who returned wealthy from the Americas and founded the San Juan schools.
The municipal library and historical archives are also located in the same building.

The Cultural Center has two floors, with over 1,600 m² of floor space.
It includes the following facilities:

1st Floor:

  • Entrance hall next to the offices of the Culture area staff.
  • Playroom – Gymnasium: where local dance groups rehearse and traditional dance classes are held. It is also used for other courses such as relaxation, psychomotor skills, etc. This room has been specially equipped for use as a gymnasium with a floating floor, mirrors, dance poles, specialized equipment, etc. It also has a changing area and bathrooms with showers.
  • Premises of the “Coral Kolitza” Musical Association.
  • “Antonio Mielgo” photography studio: equipped with two darkrooms for developing, a meeting area and a classroom for teaching courses.
  • The %22Pío Bermejillo%22 auditorium, with a capacity of 74 people, also features a fold-down table for use in lectures or note-taking. It includes a stage equipped with microphones, power outlets for laptops, and other necessary equipment. The room is also equipped with a modern sound system, a roll-up projection screen, a projector, and more.
  • The %22Roberto Rodet%22 multipurpose exhibition area, located in the inner courtyard of the Kultur Etxea, has been equipped with rods for displaying paintings. Pedestals and mobile panels have also been acquired for use when exhibitions require more space than the walls allow. A special lighting system has also been installed throughout the area.

2nd Floor: It has 12 premises of which:

  • 2 Meeting and Multi-Purpose Rooms “R. Seminario” and “León Felipe”: These are two rooms initially intended for the meeting of association members when the number does not make it necessary to use the auditorium. It has been planned that they can also be used as a classroom for different courses, design, painting, etc., and for this purpose they have been equipped with suitable furniture.
  • Ten rooms are dedicated to the various cultural and sports associations of Balmaseda. Each room is equipped with office supplies, computers, internet access, telephone, and fax. These rooms have been allocated according to the activities of the different associations, as we currently have sixty-two registered associations in Balmaseda. The rooms are as follows:
    1. “Moto Club Kolitza”
    2. Pending new transfer
    3. Pending new transfer
    4. “Foro León Felipe” and “Asociación Taurina de Balmaseda”
    5. “DISLEBI” and “ASVIMI” Association
    6. Balmaseda Cycling Association
    7. Chess Club, Football School and Balmaseda Football Club Sports Society.
    8. Berbetan Euskara Taldea, Eguski Dantza Taldea y Enkarterri-Sahara Elkartea.
    9. “Jatorrak” txistus association and Cadagua Basketball Club.
    10. Music School.

Rooms 2 and 3, after the relocation of the mountain and ski associations to Mendiko Etxea, are awaiting new assignment.

The different rooms are named after illustrious figures who have contributed cultural value to Balmaseda, such as: the %22Pío Bermejillo%22 Assembly Hall, the %22Martín de los Heros%22 Municipal Archive, the %22León Felipe%22 Meeting Room, among others.
