San Severino Church
Description
Dating from the 14th century, it was built by three vaulted naves supported by six slender columns.
Legend tells that its three medieval tombs belong to Sir. Enrique de Lucerga, a knight who fought in the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa (1212), to the founder of Balmaseda Sir. Lope Sáenz de Mena and his wife
Its medieval stained glass windows and its Cavaille-Coll organ from the end of the 19th century are also noteworthy.
Among its chapels it is worth mentioning the Chapel of the Holy Christ, which contains a beautiful altarpiece from the “Escuela Flamenca de los Hermanos Beaugrant”. The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception, in neo-Romanesque style, was designed at the beginning of the 20th century by the architect Manuel Mª Smith. The relics of Sir. Pedro de Asua y Mendia from Bamaseda, who was named blessed on November 1, 2014, are venerated there.
